A member of the Oakland University community since 2002, alumna
Michele Soroka
currently teaches undergraduate music theory, aural skills and musicianship for dancers. She also teaches music theory and piano to pre-college students in the Music Prep Division of OU and in her private studio. She is the faculty mentor for the OU Music Analysis Club, a student organization that meets to analyze music, bring in guest lecturers, and attend performances. Recent research includes “Pedaling Techniques: Teaching the Elementary and Intermediate Piano Student” and “The Importance of Aural Skills for the Beginner and Intermediate Piano Student” presented to the Vivace Music Club and the Detroit Musician’s League. Soroka supports the Oakland Symphony Orchestra administratively by working with musician contracts and creating the concert programs and other publicity material. She is also the accompanist at a local church.
Soroka graduated with a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy in 2010. She won the concerto competition, performing with the OSO, and she was awarded departmental honors as Distinguished Musician as a graduate student. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance in 2007, and she was awarded a MaTilDa for outstanding service and the Jennifer Scott Memorial Award for excellence in piano teaching during her years as an undergraduate.
