The primary driver of job creation and economic growth, in the United States, is new business formation. The Kauffman foundation estimates that startups create an average of three million new jobs annually. However, startups face many challenges in the first few years of business, and half of them will fail by the fifth year. Business incubators have come to play an important role in supporting business development and job creation. The National Business Incubation Association (NBIA) has estimated that 87% of firms that have graduated from business incubators are still in business.
