With a degree in history, you receive a versatile, critical education that can be applied to virtually any field or industry.
Secondary Teaching
Prepare for a career in teaching history at the secondary level with the Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP), an extended program of study leading to a recommendation for certification to the Michigan Department of Education. Students in the STEP program must complete the requirements for a B.A. degree in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as the specific history major requirements and a secondary teaching minor.
History majors in the STEP program are strongly encouraged to complete the requirements for the social studies (RX) endorsement. All history students interested in the STEP program should consult early and often with the Department of History's undergraduate adviser. Application forms and additional program information can be found on the School of Education website.
