2012-2013 Major Events Schedule

Oakland University's major events are annual, and get bigger and better every year. Below are the dates for the 2012-2013 academic year and a brief description of what it's all about. Make it a point to attend each and every event!


Welcome Week @ Oakland University - Fall Semester 2012
Tuesday, September 4-Friday, September 14, 2012

Welcome Week is always during the first week of classes of the winter semester and full of annual events like the Sigma Pi Fraternity Pig Roast and SPB Carnival. You can't go far during Welcome Week without stumbling upon a student org event.  

New Student Convocation & Involvement Fair
Tuesday, September 4, 2012

For the very first time, all incoming first-year students attended the New Student Convocation, a ceremony marking the beginning of one's college career and an official welcome to OU. Watch the video of spring 2012 graduates giving this year's incoming class some advice on how to reach the finish line.  Convocation is always followed by the Involvement Fair, where student org members greet incoming students and introduce them to student involvement.

The Madnezz is a celebration of the official start of the NCAA basketball season. Grizzlies get to meet the men's and women's basketball players at this late night event.

Keeper of the Dream Scholarship Awards Celebration & Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Monday, January 21, 2013

The Keeper of the Dream Award recognizes Oakland University students who have contributed to interracial understanding and good will. Last year's keynote speaker was rapper Common. Learn more at oakland.edu/KOD.

OU Homecoming
Friday-Saturday, January 25-26, 2013

Homecoming is a relatively new tradition at Oakland, but one that is growing every year with a pre-game tailgate (don't miss out on the chili cook off) and receptions for alumni. Check back for a full schedule events on oakland.edu/comehome. 


Meadow Brook Ball
Saturday, February 2, 2013

The Meadow Brook Ball is a ticketed, formal event at Meadow Brook Hall. Check back for when tickets will become available and be sure to mark that date on your calendar. This event always sells out fast!


International Night
Friday, March 15, 2013

International Night features food, music, entertainment, fashions, and multicultural displays from around the world. Each year there is a theme, in 2012 it was "Around the World in Three Hours."
