The interim vice provost for Undergraduate Education is the academic leader responsible for the quality of university-wide undergraduate experience. He is charged with advancing student success and faculty development. Which includes advancing undergraduate learning and instruction through the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. The interim vice provost advises the provost and president on all matters relating to undergraduate study and accreditation. He works directly with the deans and faculty of the schools and college and with university governance to develop curriculum and undergraduate policy. The undergraduate portion of the interim vice provost role includes: promoting quality and excellence in teaching, learning, and program assessment; stimulating innovations and curricular enhancements that lead to student success; enhancing international education;enhancing cross-disciplinary education; establishing and interpreting university policy for undergraduate education; maintaining university quality through the regional accreditation process; promoting inter-institutional collaboration and articulations; and overseeing university-wide academic programs and initiatives.

Interim Vice Provost Scott L. Crabill joined Oakland University in 2001. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and Journalism. Computer-Mediated Communication and Interpersonal Communication are his primary areas of study with a quantitative methodological focus. An example of his research may be found in the international flagship journal in the field Journal of Computer Mediated Communication. One area of particular interest for Dr. Crabill is the examination of white supremacist groups within computer-mediated contexts. His dissertation is titled "A Comparative Content Analysis of Social Identity Cues within a White Supremacist Discussion Board and a Social Activist Discussion Board", which explores the language dynamics of white supremacist groups within computer-mediated contexts, such as discussion boards. He specifically focuses on how members of a white supremacist discussion board monitor and correct each other language patterns in their on-line discussions.
