Retiree Access F.A.Q.
Retiree Access F.A.Q.
Who is included in the Retiree group?
Individuals who have retired from Oakland University and meet the criteria established for their employee group. University Human Resources oversees the data base of those who have qualified as a retiree. This benefit is not transferable.
What does free ACCESS mean?
Free access means that as a retired OU employee you will be able to enter the facility with proper identification and use all areas of the facility - track, pool, fitness center, locker rooms, racquetball courts, squash court, gym.
What verification will I need to enter?
All eligible retirees will be required to have a valid OU ID or may purchase a key fob for $10 as long as they have picture ID and can be verified in the OU system.
When does this benefit begin?
Individuals who are current members of the recreation center will have access added when their current membership expires. All others will have access when the data base is received from UHR and transferred into the Rec Center system. In the interim, individuals who self identify as a retiree will be admitted to the Rec Center.
What services will I have to pay for and what will it cost?
Services that are not provided with free access include, but are not limited to, fitness classes; mind/body classes such as Pilates, and Yoga; personal training; massage; safety training classes; locker rental; and intramural sports leagues.
Are there amenities in the Rec Center?
The Rec Center provides equipment check out for most sports, locker rooms, and locker rental (limited number) or daily locker use. We do not have a towel service and recommend that you bring your personal lock for daily use lockers.
What is the difference between the Rec Center and the Fitness Center?
The Recreation Center is the actual building which houses all of the open use facilities. The Fitness Center is the area of the building which has the equipment for strength, cardio etc.
Will I get the Fitness Center free?
Access to the fitness center is included in the access to the Recreation Center.
Can I Participate in OU Employee Wellness Programs
Programs and Services developed as part of the Department of Campus Recreation Employee Wellness programs are available for current OU employees only.
Can my spouse/significant other join?
We are happy to allow the spouse/significant other to add a membership onto your access benefit at the current rates. For specific information please see our
Membership Rates
page.
What about my children joining?
Retirees may sponsor their children at the current other rate or bring them as a guest at regular guest rates.
I currently Rent a Locker, how will this change affect my locker?
The Department will work to evaluate the locker rentals of individuals and steps will be taken to transition the locker rental to match the calendar year access period.
Is the track included?
Yes, the track is included in the general access to the Rec Center
What will the cost of the exercise classes be?
Group exercise classes are offered seven days a week and will require a Fit Pass for entry. All non-fee paying members will be required to purchase a pass to participate. Passes can be purchased for single classes, 12 classes, 24 or unlimited class use. Passes are good for the semester in which they are purchased. Only students and those who have purchased a membership have free access to group exercise classes.
