Center - About Us
Oakland University, located in Rochester, Mich., began offering an autism endorsement certificate for teachers and other professionals almost 3 decades ago. Today, the program has grown and evolved into the Oakland University Center for Autism Research, Education and Support (OUCARES). Providing innovative programs for teachers, programming and counseling for individuals and their families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the multifaceted approach includes education for professionals, research in the field of autism education and daily living, as well as support services for families.
In June of 2004, Oakland University expanded its autism expertise by establishing an autism center focused on serving the daily needs of families with a primary goal of improving quality of life. Funded solely through donations, Oakland University has offered extensive programming to individuals and families impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Over the past six years, we have served more than 1150 families through different programs as well as numerous special events such as the annual Family Fun Day.
Oakland University looks forward to growing with the community and continuing to be of service to those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. We continue to operate as a nonprofit and work to raise funds that will support our efforts. If you are interested in donating or assisting with raising funds, please contact our development office at (248) 370-4233 or visit the
