Applying for External Funding
There are resources available in the Dean's office that will increase an applicant's chances for funding. Whether applicants (SEHS faculty, staff or students) are hoping to obtain government (federal, state or local) funding or private funding from a corporation, foundation or individual, it is very important that the applicant meet with the appropriate people in the School. Communication with the Dean's office after the applicant has talked to his/her department chair or supervisor is intended to be helpful to the applicant by providing feedback that will assist in writing successful proposals.
A quick outline of the process is provided here. Further details and resources related to private funding can be asked of the SEHS Dean's office at sehs@oakland.edu
- Applicant has an idea, project and/or program for which the applicant is requesting funding
- Applicant sets up a meeting with the SEHS Development Project Manager to discuss the following:
- Private funding sources - foundations and corporations
- Proposal writing process at OU and in the School of Education and Human Services
- General timeline, including when the applicant hopes to begin work and time to get signatures and approvals
- Estimated dollar amount needed (a range is okay)
The Office of Research Administration manages funding requests from government sources, including local, state and federal levels. Private gift requests are managed by the SEHS Development Office at x4247. If you are not sure if the funding organization is private or public, contact the SEHS Development Project Manager Avni Thomas at x4247.
