3. Attend orientation
Orientation at Oakland University is required for all community college partnership students before you can register for classes at either institution.
We highly suggest that you also attend orientation for your partner school:
First-year students
If you are a new, first-year student participating in a Community College Partnership program, there are special orientation dates set aside for your registration process. These orientations will cover everything included in an Oakland University orientation. Educational counselors and academic advisers from the community college partners will be available on these specific dates. Orientation is mandatory for all first-year students.
Transfer students
New transfer students participate in a two-part Transfer Student Orientation at OU. Part One is online and includes information about your Community College Partnership program. Part Two is an on-campus advising and registration session. During Part Two, students will meet with OU advisers only.
Transfer students wishing to register for community college classes are encouraged to set up an individual appointment with an
adviser at the community college.
4. Take course placement tests
Certain general courses at Oakland and partners schools require students to take placement exams or meet specific criteria. It is important that you forward your most current ACT scores to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 101 North Foundation Hall, Rochester, MI 48309-4401.
Some departments use these scores to determine placements. All new students should plan to take placement tests prior to orientation. Placement tests should be completed at Oakland University and/or the partner school, depending on the institution you plan to take each course. Please bring all test results with you to your orientation. Academic advisers will assist students in determining the appropriate course level during orientation.
