SECS Accounts

SECS accounts are computer accounts for the School of Engineering and Computer Science(SECS). It is needed to access many of the technology services the School of Engineering and Computer Science provides. This account is independent from any of the accounts provided to the entire University as it is only intended for SECS students, faculty, and staff.

Requesting a SECS Account

You can request an account by filling our the request form. Request will be granted to current SECS students, SECS faculty, or with special permission from the CTO (Computer Technology Office)

SECS account request life-cycle
  1. Request Submitted - waiting approval
  2. Request approved -  waiting on creation job
  3. Account created (at this point an approval email will be sent to your O.U. email account) - waiting on password to be set
  4. Set Password (this can be done by following the link in your approval email or by filling out the password reset form) - account creation complete
The requester is responsible for initiating steps 1 and 4.

What can you do with a SECS Account


Passwords (requirements, lost or forgotten, expiration, and change)  

Password must be seven characters long. They are set to expire annually. If you log into an SECS computer before your account expires it will prompt you to change your password. Alternatively you can fill out the password reset form

SECS Account termination

Your account can become disabled or removed if any of the following statements are true.
  • You are a student and have not taken a course provided by the School of Engineering and Computer Science in the last 6 months.
  • You are employed by the School of Engineering and Computer Science, and your employment has been terminated.
  • Your OU Net ID has been disable or UTS requests your account not be granted access to the University Network.
  • If the CTO believes your account is a security risk or is being abused (this is at our discretion).
