Side by Side Symposium
Planting the Seeds: Reading, Writing and Growing
Each year, the Meadow Brook Writing Project hosts a Side by Side Symposium; it is a wonderfully inexpensive opportunity for teachers to gain best practices as well as obtain SCECHs (formerly called SBCEUs). The symposium offers workshops and panel discussions on a variety of topics teachers currently face, including plagiarism, peer review, new media literacy, place-based writing, the importance of revision, writing workshops and more. Held at the Macomb ISD on January 26, 2013, the theme this year is Planting the Seeds: Reading, Writing and Growing. Teachers can register online for this event through oakland.edu/pace; registration includes a continental breakfast and lunch, and the cost for teachers is $35. SCECH processing option is available for an additional $15.
