The Tutoring Center is always looking for student office assistants, peer tutors and Supplemental Instruction leaders. Become a part of our team for a rewarding experience helping fellow students by sharing your expertise with them.

Currently enrolled OU student

  • Must complete  training sessions each semester.

Duties: 
Peer tutors help Oakland University students clarify homework assignments and course content, either by appointment or on a walk-in basis individually or in groups, during one-hour sessions.

Qualifications: 
  • Sophomore standing or higher
  • 3.0 GPA in the course(s) you want to tutor
  • Expertise in content areas and learning skills
  • Adequate demonstration of time/task managing skills
What else? 
  • Must complete 10 hours of training towards tutor certification.
  • Schedules are based on availability.
  • Hired as an appointment or walk-in Peer Tutor.
  • Need is in all subjects at the 100-200 level.

Duties: 
Supplemental Instruction Leaders conduct organized study sessions focusing on course-specific study skills, key concepts and test preparation.

Qualifications: 
  • Sophomore standing or higher
  • 3.0 GPA in the course(s) you want to lead
  • Expertise in content areas and learning skills
  • Adequate demonstration of time/task managing skill
What else?
  • Mandatory training prior to start of the semester.
  • Work begins on the first day of class for the semester.
  • SI is needed in 100-, and 200-level accounting, biology, chemistry, economics, math, physics, psychology and statistics. 
  • You will attend each class, take notes, do the homework, and conduct 2-3 SI sessions each week.
