The pre-clinical education obtained from Oakland University consists of 2-4 years of pre-requisite and specialized classroom instruction meant to establish competencies in core scientific disciplines.
With exception to the Medical Laboratory Science specialization that receives post-graduate clinical training, students have the opportunity to earn a BDTS degree by completing a hospital based clinical internship program at affiliated institutions. Acceptance into the internship programs is competitive and is based on grade point average, personal interview and letters of recommendation. The application process for each of the specializations is unique. Students are advised to read carefully about their chosen specialization.
To prepare for one of the BDTS specializations, a student must have a strong background in sciences including anatomy, physiology, math, physics and computer science. Completion of courses within the BDTS core curriculum may be required for subsequent courses within each specialization. Consult the full BDTS degree requirement checklist for general education requirements that are satisfied by BDTS core curriculum courses.
