2011 MOST OUTSTANDING THESIS AND DISSERTATION AWARD:

This award is offered by the Office of the Provost recognizing outstanding research and scholarship on the part of our students.  Although these awards are granted after students have completed their studies, receiving this distinctive recognition improves the chances of having their work published for a broader audience.  This, in turn, can lead to recognition of faculty members, university departments and Oakland in general, as well as lead to the recruitment of outstanding future students.

The 2011 Most Outstanding Dissertation Award recipient was Lisa Ann Sturges.  Lisa was only one of two recipients for dissertations.  We are proud to recognize her and her accomplishments along with Associate Professor Sherri Oden, Dissertation Chairperson.  Lisa’s dissertation is titled: Toward a Systematic and Intentional Approach to Leadership Development for the Early Childhood Profession. Lisa completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Education: Early Childhood Education degree and will be recognized at the Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

The University Libraries have established the Undergraduate Research in Writing Award to celebrate excellence in library research. This annual prize will recognize up to two students who have most successfully applied Information literacy skills in a paper or project, that is to say students who have demonstrated their ability to identify an information need, find sources that address it, evaluate and incorporate those sources, and use information ethically.
