Verification
What is Verification?
Verification is a process to confirm that information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is accurate.
Note: Not all files are selected for verification. If your file is selected for verification you will be notified by the School of Medicine and asked to provide specific documentation, such as federal tax transcripts.
Reasons A File May Be Selected For Verification:
-
The Department of Education randomly selects a certain number of student files
-
The school selects the files of students who report either zero or unusually low income, and any time there is discrepant data that must be resolved
-
You select yourself when you apply for institutional need-based aid with the OUWB School of Medicine
-
You are an independent student when applying for federal aid. Your parents’ income and assets have no bearing on your eligibility to borrow Federal Direct Loans or Graduate PLUS loans.
-
When you enter parent income and asset information on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the OUWB School of Medicine uses the information to determine whether or not you are eligible for need-based institutional awards. You will be asked to provide documentation such as federal tax forms, to verify your income and assets, and your parents’ income and assets.
-
If your parents are divorced, you must provide information from the last parent you resided with for at least six months, or who provided more than 50% of your financial support. If this parent is remarried, you must also provide their spouse’s information.
-
If both of your parents are deceased, please provide copies of their death certificates to exempt yourself from this requirement.
-
If you decide that you do not want to provide the documentation and no longer wish for your eligibility for this type of award to be determined, you may submit a Revision Form available on the Financial Services website to request that we cancel the review of your file.
