Assessment for Learning: Integrating Classroom Assessment Strategies throughout the Term
Please join us for an interactive workshop facilitated by Shannon McNair.
We spend a lot of our assessing student learning, but do we balance assessment of learning with assessment for learning and assessment with learning? Research on teaching and learning suggests that when students are actively involved in the assessment process, when learning experiences take place and/or applied in relevant context, and when learning goals are highly visible, more learning takes place.
Participants will engage in several quick and easy assessment activities that apply across disciplines and diversity in learning styles. Using ongoing assessment data to inform teaching and learning will be
discussed.
Shannon McNair is an associate professor in human development and child studies. She teaches in the early childhood graduate program, conducts research on assessment and learning in early childhood, and teaches a course in K-12 assessment for the OU International Baccalaureate Program. She also conducts program evaluation for educational and social programs for children and adults, and conducts research on teaching, learning and assessment in higher education. McNair was the 2010 recipient of the OU Teaching Excellence Award.
