"I appreciate all the opportunities Oakland University has afforded me through the years. I
especially treasure the students and colleagues who taught me so much
and continue to bring me joy in my retirement. I support Oakland with
gratitude and hope for its future."
- Jane Bingham
Professor Emeritus, Reading and Language Arts
Because of the generosity of School of Education and Human Services (SEHS) alumni, donors and friends in the 2010-11 academic year, the School has received over $60,000 to award 37 SEHS undergraduate and graduate students much-needed scholarships. A new endowment was also established to reduce tuition costs for incoming freshmen from the Berkley School District.
In honor of retiring faculty member Dr. Toni Walters, her students started a scholarship to
support doctoral students in the Reading and Language Arts program and undergraduate
students studying literacy. Additional gifts created a faculty and staff common space to
encourage interdisciplinary discussions.
Why Give?
Donors give for a variety of reasons, including . . .
- Benefitting students pursuing similar educational and career goals
- Furthering research by faculty and students
- Supporting conference attendance and presentations
- Continuing services the SEHS provides to the OU and surrounding community, such as the SEHS Counseling Center, Lowry Center for Early Childhood Education, Educational Research Lab, and the Oakland University Center for Autism Research, Education and Support (OUCARES)
- Enhancing programs at the SEHS
All of these reasons help prepare collaborative leaders capable of, and committed to,
empowering others and promoting an inclusive society.
