Benefit Eligible Employee Access F.A.Q.

What does Benefit Eligible mean?
Any employee in a position that is able to receive benefits provided by OU.  If you have opted out of a health care plan you would still be eligible because you had the choice of participating.  Most benefit eligible employees are receiving some benefits such as a retirement contribution even if they are not taking the health care.  If you question your eligibility you should contact University Human Resources or Academic Human Resources if you are faculty.

What does free ACCESS mean?
Free access means that as a benefit eligible OU employee you will be able to enter the facility with proper identification and use all areas of the facility – track, pool, fitness center, locker rooms, racquetball courts, squash court, gym.

What verification will I need to enter?
All eligible employees will be required to have a valid OU ID or may purchase a key fob for $10 as long as they have picture ID and can be verified in the OU system.

What services will I have to pay for and what will it cost?
Services that are not provided with free access include, but are not limited to, fitness classes; mind/body classes such as Pilates, and Yoga; personal training; massage; safety training classes; locker rental; and intramural sports leagues.

The Rec Center provides equipment check out for most sports, locker rooms, and locker rental (limited number) or daily locker use.  We do not have a towel service and recommend that you bring your personal lock for daily use lockers.

What is the difference between the Rec Center and the Fitness Center?
The Recreation Center is the actual building which houses all of the open use facilities.  The Fitness Center is the area of the building which has the equipment for strength, cardio etc.

Will I get the Fitness Center free?
Access to the fitness center is included in the access to the Recreation Center.

Is the track included?

Can I payroll deduct for my classes and other family members?
At this time only the addition of an annual membership for a spouse/significant other can be purchased via payroll deduction.  All other classes and dependant membership will require on site purchases.

What if I am a student as well as an employee?

If the primary function of an individual is to work on campus and they receive a benefit of career development, the default category would be considered an Employee Access.  That would provide free access but classes and additional programs would be at a cost.  No student rates would apply to this group of individuals.

I currently Rent a Locker, when will I be able to renew my locker for the 2013 calendar year?
Details of the timing for locker renewals is currently be worked out; please check back soon for updated information.

What will the cost of the exercise classes be?
Group exercise classes are offered seven days a week and will require a Fit Pass for entry.  All non-fee paying members will be required to purchase a pass to participate.  Passes can be purchased for single classes, 12 classes, 24 or unlimited class use.  Passes are good for the semester in which they are purchased.   Only students and those who have purchased a membership have free access to group exercise classes.

I am not benefit eligible; can I still be a member of the Rec Center?

Any OU employee not receiving the access as a benefit will still be able to purchase a membership at the employee rate.

Can I purchase services online?
At this time most services which are being RENEWED can be purchased on line. The on line purchase does require a valid log-in which can be obtained by going to the Rec Center home page and completing a request http://www.oakland.edu/campusrec/  Once you have received the log-in, renewal of most services can be completed by simply clicking the buttons on the main page for the desired registrations.  Please note:  You will not be able to register on line without obtaining a log-in first.  Please allow 2 business days for log-ins to be activated.
