I want to extend my thanks and appreciation for the warm welcome I have received from the OU family since joining the university as the vice president for community engagement. It is a pleasure to be here, and I look forward to meeting even more alumni as events and networking opportunities might allow our paths to cross.

as a giving priority

“The medical school will not only help the state of Michigan with what’s going to be a huge shortage of doctors, but will also enhance Oakland University’s brand and reputation as a national university,” he says. “I hope this gift will support the growth of not only the medical school, but the university in general.”
 
Gift allows Berkley High School students
to pursue career in education


Former School of Education and Human Services (SEHS) Interim Dean Bill Keane and his wife, Gerry, have made a generous gift in memory of Gerry’s sister, Irene Demarest, which will allow graduates of Berkley High School to pursue a career in education at Oakland University.
 
School of Education and Human Services receives
Kellogg Foundation grant


Summer Program in downtown Detroit with the support of a $97,000 Kellogg Foundation grant provided a safe and fun environment for 70 children from Detroit, where they were exposed to reading enrichment and participated in afternoon field trips, music and dance workshops, and social action projects.
 
Oakland University selected
to host Republican presidential debate


The university is pleased to host a Republican national debate as a critical part of the broader democratic process that will determine who will be elected president in the 2012 election.
 
Sheikh endowed scholarship established
for study abroad students


Hajja Razia Sharif Sheikh Islamic Studies Endowed Scholarship will support students interested in studying the history, traditions and culture of Islam, and expanding studies abroad in a Muslim country.
 
Courech engineering scholarship established
to honor lifetime accomplishments


To honor his lifetime accomplishments in engineering, dedication to U.S. soldiers, and deep respect for his Oakland education, Raymond’s family and friends have created the Raymond G. Courech Endowed Scholarship for undergraduate engineering students.

OU endowments fare well

The NCSE Study of Endowments for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010, revealed that Oakland’s endowment performance exceeded its peers for the one-, three-, five- and ten-year periods.
