Harry N. Herkowitz, Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery

Harry N. Herkowitz, M.D. is the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Beaumont Health Systems, Royal Oak and Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine Rochester, Michigan.

He specializes in the surgical management of spinal disorders including spinal stenosis, herniated discs, deformity and trauma to the neck and back.

A graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Herkowitz completed a Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital. Following that he completed a Spine Surgery Fellowship under the direction of Richard H. Rothman, M.D., Ph.D. at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr Herkowitz has authored many textbooks and research articles concerning spine surgery. Dr. Herkowitz is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is member of the Cervical Spine Research Society, International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, North American Spine Society, Michigan Orthopaedic Society, Mid-American Orthopaedic Association, American Orthopaedic Association, the Spine Study Group, and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Herkowitz is the former president of the Cervical Spine Research Society, the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

His practices focuses on surgical problems of the spine and his research interests include degenerative solutions to aging discs and improving spinal implants.
