Q.
What is a planned gift?
A. A planned gift allows you to make a gift now or after your lifetime that also provides financial benefits for you or your heirs. A misconception is that gift planning is only for the "wealthy." The truth is, even people of modest means can make a difference through planned giving.
Q. Why should I make a planned gift as a part of the All-University Fund Drive (AUFD)?
A. The AUFD is a great time to make a planned gift because of the President’s offer to provide $5,000 for every qualified gift or pledge of at least $10,000. This means that your program of choice will receive $5,000 today even if your gift is deferred. Gifts made through bequests and beneficiary designations qualify for the match and are the easiest planned gifts to make. Charitable gift annuities also qualify for the president’s match and are a great option for retirees looking for a fixed amount of income for life as well as an income tax deduction.
As always, making a planned gift to Oakland also gives you membership in the Heritage Society. The university publicly recognizes Heritage Society members who have expressly given their permission to list their names in donor publications. Some donors wish to remain anonymous, and the Office of Planned Giving is happy to honor their wishes.
