A Master’s Degree for A Growing Job Market
"IDC forecasts the business analytics market to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7% percent over the 2009-2014 forecast period with even greater growth expected over the next ten years."
"Data has become an important factor of production today – on a par with physical assets and human capital – and the increasing intensity with which enterprises are gathering information alongside the rise of multimedia, social media, and the Internet of Things will continue to fuel exponential growth in data for the foreseeable future. A wide variety of techniques and technologies have been developed and adapted to aggregate, manipulate, analyze, and visualize such large pools of data. These techniques and technologies draw from several fields including statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, and economics. This means that an organization that intends to derive value from very large pools of data has to adopt a flexible, multidisciplinary approach. It also means that the IT professional who can help the organization realize significant value from its data must be trained anew in order to do so. ...We project a need for 1.5 million additional managers and analysts in the United States who can ask the right questions and consume the results of the analysis of Big Data effectively."
McKinsey & Company
"Our 2012 InformationWeek Salary Survey shows there’s a war on for analytics experts and information management professionals who can ask the right questions and make use of vast and growing data stores. So say the 660 BI and analytics pros responding to our poll. Need proof? How about a median total cash compensation for BI managers up 11.5% since 2010, to $135,000."
InformationWeek, April 2012.
