Ali Woerner is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance at Oakland University in Auburn Hills, MI. and Artistic Director and Founder of the contemporary dance company, Shifting Sol. Ali received her Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan and her Bachelor of Performing Arts from Oklahoma City University.
Throughout her diverse career within both commercial (performing as a Radio City Rockette for six years) and contemporary mediums, Ali has performed and taught all over the world; including Colombia, Costa Rica and Japan. Shifting Sol made their NYC premiere this past June at the Ailey CityGroup Theatre and has performed through out the United States and Cali, Colombia. She has set her choreography for various companies including; Gallaudet University Dance Company, Inaside Jazz Dance Chicago, Patterson Rhythm Pace Dance Company, Umbigada Dance Company, Shifting Sol, Wayne State University, Albion College, Oakland University’s Repertory Company and Oakland Dance Theatre, Eastern Michigan University and Danza Universitad URC in Costa Rica.
Ali has taught master classes for the American College Dance Festival (where her work has also been performed), and is a choreography judge for the National Society of Arts and Letters. Ali is the Private Studio Column Editor for the Journal of Dance Education and was recently awarded a Research Grant from Oakland University to fund for the second year her event Happenings, a collaboration of Detroit artists on the rooftop of the Music Hall for the Performing Arts downtown Detroit, to take place late summer 2011.
