Career Services prepares students and alumni to attain lifelong career success as they make career decisions, develop job search strategies, pursue experiential opportunities, and secure employment.
Department Goals:
- To identify career-related employment opportunities for students and alumni. This includes full-time, part-time and summer/temporary employment. Identified opportunities are coordinated through the on-campus recruiting function, job fairs, online job listing database and job referrals.
- To assist students and alumni in acquiring the skills necessary to access the job market. These skills give students and alumni a competitive edge as they seek career-related employment. Such skills include, but are not limited to, job interviewing, resume preparation, job search techniques and salary negotiations. This goal is accomplished through individual advising, workshops and the CS library.
- To provide structured program opportunities whereby students gain professional level, career-related work experience prior to graduation. This is accomplished through the Career Experience program, including cooperative education, county internships and other career-related employment.
- To assist students and alumni in defining and focusing their career direction. CS works with students and alumni to identify specific career information and more sharply define what the student or alumnus can expect from a particular profession or career. This is accomplished through individual career advising, special workshops, the CAST mentoring program and career resource materials.
- To provide responsive and effective community service compatible with departmental goals. This entails interacting with campus entities, business groups, governmental units, community groups and other organizations to provide information and lend expertise in identifying community service, learning and employment opportunities for students.
- To provide a systematic approach to service delivery within the department. This involves the use of the latest available technology to enable our staff to deliver services in the most efficient way possible to students and alumni. It requires maintaining a current knowledge of the applications of this technology in the field of career services.
