Trustee establishes School of Medicine scholarship
Oakland University Board of Trustees member Michael Kramer and his wife, Zina, hope that their namesake scholarship not only benefits the student who receives it but ultimately the state of Michigan. The Michael and Zina Kramer Scholarship is a $50,000 gift to one student who will be entering the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in fall 2011.

OU receives Macomb building as gift from prominent developers
Oakland University will expand its reach in Macomb County, Michigan, when it opens faculty offices and classrooms in a two-story building in downtown Mt. Clemens. Two prominent Macomb County investors and developers Gabe Anton and his partner, Stuart Frankel donated the building, which is valued at approximately $2 million.

School of Medicine fund established in memory of former associate dean
 Dr. William Miles once promised his wife he would never let her devotion to medical education and the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine be forgotten.

Roche endowment honors former CAS student
Each year, an Oakland University student from the social work program who shows exemplary dedication to public service and volunteer activism will be awarded a scholarship from The Lauren Kathryn Roche Endowment for Scholarships in Social Work. This special award has been made possible by the loving family of Lauren K. Roche, CAS ’10 (posthumous), a dedicated and passionate student of social work who was devoted to serving and assisting others.

Dodge grandson creates MBH Press
John F. Van Lennep, the grandson of John and Matilda Dodge, has made a significant gift to Meadow Brook Hall to launch its new publishing program, the Meadow Brook Press. The new press is a tremendous addition to Meadow Brook Hall. It will greatly improve the interpretation of the hall’s history and the educational value of Oakland University’s very own historic estate and museum.

Travel fund provides enriching experiences for students
Bernie and Nina Kent love talking to Oakland University students who have studied in Israel with their help.
They have met a number of these students during the post-trip get-togethers that the Kents have hosted since creating the Bernard and Nina Kent Judaic Studies Endowed Israel Travel Fund in 2008.

Alum fellowship supports biomedical research
Oakland University alumnus Michael Kenny, CAS ’78, has made a gift to the Undergraduate Research in Science Fund. The fund provides stipends for students who conduct summer research alongside faculty members. In giving to the fund, Kenny hopes to give current OU students the opportunity to engage in research with enthusiasm and curiosity, and to promote OU’s progress in scientific research.

OU softball team benefits from Miracles of Jenna Fund
The Miracles from Jenna Fund was established by David and Cathie Fital and Craig and Laurie Como to honor the relationship between the OU softball team and Jenna Kast. The fund will award scholarships to softball players who embody Jenna’s zest and fervor for life, and allow the spirit of Jenna to live on and be felt by future OU softball players for years to come.

Local swim club gifts OU natatorium with splashy video board
 A $30,000 gift from the Oakland Live Y’ers Swim Team — OLY Swimming — has allowed Oakland University’s swimming and diving program to replace its aging video board with new, state-of-the-art equipment.

Pediatric retinal research laboratory seeks new treatments for eye disease
The university’s Eye Research Institute recently launched the Virginia and Clarence Clohset Pediatric Retinal Research Laboratory (PERRL), which is believed to be the only laboratory in the country devoted solely to pediatric retinal research.

OU Winter College begins new tradition, provides Florida fun and relaxation
In February, Oakland University hosted its first ever Winter College in Naples, Florida. Alumni and friends attended a weekend of thought-provoking classes, stimulating discussion, relaxing amenities and warm weather.
