Dr. Judith Venuti, Chair  and Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences, received her B.S. and M.S. in Biology from Northeastern University, Boston, MA and her Ph.D. in Anatomical Sciences from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Prior to joining Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, and then an Associate Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Dr. Venuti has taught in the Anatomical Sciences for more than 17 years and has won several Excellence in Teaching awards. Her teaching experience has included- Clinical Anatomy, Human Prenatal Anatomy (Embryology), Developmental Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology and Allied Health Human Anatomy (as Course Director).

Dr. Venuti is a Developmental Biologist whose basic research has focused on signaling pathways that pattern the early embryo and on molecular mechanisms of skeletal myogenesis. She has also been involved in the development of 3D reconstructions of the Visible Human and helped develop interactive tools for teaching human anatomy. She oversees the Embryology curriculum for M1-M2 students.

Dr. Venuti was recently selected to be a Fellow of the American Association of Anatomists (AAA). She is actively engaged in the AAA where she currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Annual Meeting Program Co-chair and as a member of the Educational Outreach Committee. She is also dedicated to educational outreach and serves as a Co-chair of the Developmental Biology Program for the Annual Biomedical Conference for Minority Students. While at LSUHSC she was Faculty Advisor and Coordinator of the LSUHSC New Orleans Public Schools Science Partnership.
