What to Know:
- The requirements for renewal of a Professional Education Certificate are very different from those needed for Provisional Certificate renewal and/or Professional Education Certificate application. If you need to renew your Provisional or apply for your Professional, please return to www.oakland.edu/sehs/certrenewal and click the appropriate link.
- To renew your Professional Education Certificate, you need to have completed:
- 6 semester credit hours of appropriate coursework from an accredited Michigan higher education institution (including accredited community colleges).
- 6 semester credit hours of appropriate coursework from an out-of-state university that has a state-approved teacher preparation program,
- 18 State Board – Continuing Education Units (SB-CEUs), or
- a combination of semester credit hours of appropriate coursework and SB-CEUs. Six semester credit hours are equivalent to 18 SB-CEUs. Three SB-CEUs are equivalent to one semester credit hour.
- The credits and/or SB-CEUs you use to renew your Professional must have been completed after the issuance of your Professional and must not be more than 5 years old.
- Oakland University’s Office of Professional Development (www.oakland.edu/pd) offers many courses for Professional Education Certificate renewal.
- Once you have completed the requirements for Professional Education Certificate renewal, go to www.michigan.gov/moecs and apply for your new certificate.
