  • Welcome Reception Newly admitted CMI Scholars (students who receive OUTAS, Wade-McCree and Compact scholarships) and their parents attend the Welcome Reception during the summer. Students and parents have the opportunity to meet the Center for Multicultural Initiatives staff and peer mentors, as well as faculty and administrators. An overview of the CMI scholars program is presented, along with specific details about program components.
  • Welcome Cookout The Welcome Cookout takes place during the first week of the fall semester known as Welcome Week. It is a collaborative effort sponsored by the Center for Multicultural Initiatives and several student groups. The Cookout provides new students with their first opportunity to meet Oakland University faculty, staff and members of student organizations. This event gives new students a positive view of the university and gives Oakland an opportunity to welcome them into the university family.
  • Hispanic Celebration Month CMI recognizes the impact of Hispanic culture during National Hispanic Celebration Month. CMI collaborates with students, faculty and staff to educate the OU community and to foster an appreciation of Hispanic culture and its world impact. Hispanic Celebration Month 2012 has concluded. If you are interested in being part of the planning process for Hispanic Celebration Month 2013, please contact our office at cmi@oakland.edu.
  • African American Celebration Month CMI honors the historical and cultural contributions of African Americans during National African American Celebration Month. CMI collaborates with students, faculty and staff to educate the OU community and to foster an appreciation of African American heritage and its impact throughout the world. African American Celebration Month 2013 will be celebrated at OU Monday, January 21, 2013 through Thursday, February 14, 2013. For more information, see the African American Celebration Month page.
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebrating the life of a great spiritual leader and social activist whose ideals helped to change the world. 
  • Keeper of the Dream Scholarship Awards Celebration Celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by awarding scholarships to students who have demonstrated strong citizenship, leadership and scholarship. For more information, see the Keeper of the Dream page.
  • Other Programs In addition, CMI co-sponsors a host of programs with students, faculty and staff to foster an appreciation of diversity in the OU community.
