Association for Library Service to Children. Awards and Grants page - This site offers a current listing of awards sponsored by the divisions or sections of the American Library Association. Includes the Newbery Award, the Caldecott Award, and the Coretta Scott King Award as well as notable booklists. The Theodor Seuss Geisel Award , established in 2006, is given to authors and illustrators of books for beginning readers.
Boston Globe - Horn Book Award - Annual award for authors and ill ustrators of outstanding children’s and young adult books in these three categories: Fiction and Poetry, Nonfiction, and Picture Book.
Carter G. Woodson Book Award - Elementary, middle and secondary level books which accurately reflect the perspectives, cultures and values of particular ethnic or racial groups. Awarded by the National Council for the Social Studies.
Children’s Choices - Co-Sponsored by the International Reading Association and the Children’s Book Council. Approximately 100 titles chosen annually by children in the United States.
Green Earth Book Award - co-sponsorde by the Newton Marasco Foundation and Salisbury University in Maryland, the Green Earth Book Award is awarded annually to promote books that inspire children's appreciation, respect and responsibility our natural environment.
Gryphon Award - Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books annual award in recognition of an English language work of fiction or non-fiction for which the primary audience is children in Kindergarten through Grade 4. The title chosen best exemplifies those qualities that successfully bridge the gap in difficulty between books for reading aloud to children and books for practiced readers.
International Reading Association Awards - Children's Choices and Young Adults' Choices are chosen by children and young adults across the U.S. Teachers' Choices are selected by teachers, reading specialists, and librarian for their usefulness in the classroom.
John Burroughs List of Nature Books for Young Readers - established in 1988, recognizes outstanding natural history books for children that contain perceptive and artistic accounts of direct experiences in the world of nature.
Middle East Book Award - Middle East Outreach Council (MEOC) established the Middle East Book Award in 1999 to recognize books for children and young adults that contribute to a meaningful
understanding of the Middle East. Books are judged on the authenticity of their portrayal of a Middle Eastern subject, as well as on their characterization, plot, and appeal for the intended audience.
NCTE Orbis Pictus Award for Outstanding Nonfiction for Children - Established in 1990; given by a committee from the National Council of Teacher's of English for books published during the previous year.

Young Adults’ Choices - Sponsored by the International Reading Association, 30 titles selected annually by young adults across the United States.

Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site - This is a collection of reviews of great books for kids, ideas of ways to use them in the classroom and collections of books and activities about particular subjects, curriculum areas, themes and professional topics.
Children's Book Council - The Children's Book Council (CBC) is a non-profit trade organization dedicated to encouraging literacy and the use and enjoyment of children's books since 1945. The CBC sponsors Young People's Poetry Week and National Children's Book Week each year. Site contains articles, links to author sites, and announcements of new books published.
Children's Literature Network - Provides links to information about authors and illustrators by state, author/illustrator web sites, booklists on specific topics, information about book festivals, signings and other author/illustrator events, and includes links to selected public libraries and professional organizations.
Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC) - a library of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, this site provides a collection of links to children's and young adult books, bibliographies, authors and illustrators, and resources for teachers and librarians.

Reader's Advisory
Amelia Bloomer Project - The Feminist Task Force of the Social Responsibilities Round Table (ALA) selects annual lists of titles for young people, including biographies of women who shattered the limitations placed on women, fantasies featuring girls taking charge despite obstacles, and contemporary and historical fiction focusing on the fight for equality and rights that many take for granted.
Bloomfield Township Public Library: Read, Watch, Listen lists - Youth librarians' recommended reading lists including titles for Pre-K-8 children, genre and topical bibliographies.
The BookHive - Created by the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenberg County, Charlotte, NC, this site allows readers to easily locate books by choosing from popular topics, by title, author/illustrator, or by browsing existing lists and reviews. Searches can also be narrowed by audience/interest level. Free coloring pages, the opportunity to listen to a story (audio-clip), and a Harry Potter Triva Quiz are included in the fun activites found here.
Guys Read - Find a Book
GUYS READ is a web-based nonprofit literacy initiative for boys founded by Jon Scieszka. It is a sponsored program of the New York Foundation for the Arts. It presents reading siggestions and enables searches for books guys might like to read. Appealing graphics and neat suggestions for starting your own "Guys Read" site.
Iowa City Schools Curricular Bibliographies - Each year, teacher librarians from the Iowa City school team up to create useful and appropriate bibliographies of new books across genres and subject areas, and learning objectives. Community Reading Month bibliographies can also be found linked to this page.
Leveled Book Lists - Nancy Giansante is a first grade teacher for the McCarthy-Town
School in Acton, MA. She created this
web site for parents who have
requested help in finding books at their child's reading level and for teachers who have requested a leveled
book list or have asked for help in their effort to build a leveled library in
their classrooms. These lists, first posted in 2003, have not been recently updated, however they provide
a great starting place.
Reading Rockets
Reading Rockets is a national multimedia project that offers research-based and best-practice information on teaching kids to read and helping those who struggle. It is an educational service of public television station WETA in Washington, D.C. It provides a wealth of information about reading and links for teachers, librarians, parents, and kids who are looking for books. You can find themed bibliographiesand reviews, and a database searchable by topic/genre/age/reading level and keyword.
RIF Reading Planet - Book Zone - This fun and colorful site encourages creativity as well as reading with many lists, games and activities available to kids. They can search for books by author, title, topic, keyword and age. Kids can create their own, personal "Reading Page", post comments and read submissions by other readers. It's all about books and fun!

Booklinks Index - searchable index to all Book Links articles from 1990 to the present. You may search for articles by keyword (including article title or author/illustrator name), date of publication, or curricular area.

The Center for Children’s Books - Searchable database for print subscribers, some articles, booklists, and commentary.
