ArtsEdge - From the Kennedy Center and MarcoPolo, this site provides lesson plans on topics as varied as junk art and A Streetcar Named Desire. Also included are arts activities, articles on arts education, and additional links to arts education sites.

Art Teacher on the Net - Ideas for art projects include those using recycled materials and those from different cultures.

Teachnology Drama, Theatre Lesson Plans - Links to lesson plans units plus more drama links.

Getty ArtsEdNet - Lesson plans, galleries, and online discussion.

Kinder Art - Lesson plans/projects for K-12 and information about art education.

Teacher Resources - Music

K-12 Resources for Music Educators - Comprehensive site for band, vocal, and orchestra instructors and students.

Music Education @ DataDragon.com -  Provides tutorials and guides, on musical styles, music history, and instruments, with audio examples.

MusicKit - Site to encourage "music literacy, reading and writing among elementary aged children." Presents planning guides, teaching strategies, and lesson plans.

The National Association for Music Education - Mission: To advance music education by encouraging the study and making of music by all. Provides links to articles, information, lessons and National Standards for Music Education.


The New York Philharmonic KidZone - an interactive site provides information and music fun for kids of all ages. Choose to learn about famous composers, identify instruments and their sounds, meet contemporary players and soloists, or play games which involve searching the various pages of the site for trivia and facts, drag and drop measures of music to compose your own minuets,  orchestrate, or change the instrumentation to familair pieces, then listen to see how it changes compared to the original version.

Songs for Teaching - contains thousands of pages -many with lyrics, sound clips, and teaching suggestions along with practical suggestions based on the latest in brain-based learning, pointers and extension activities using children's music.

Content Sites

A. Pintura, Art Detective - Interactive story of Grampa's Missing Painting shows variety of art styles and composition looking at six artists. Teacher resources include directions for use, worksheet, and vocabulary list.

Artcyclopedia - Search for artists by name, works by title, or museums by name or place.

Artsconnected - From Minneapolis Institute of Arts/Walker Art Center. Virtual tour of collections, searchable database, and downloadable teacher's guide.

Inside Art - An online game that explores a painting from inside out. Concepts explored include color and subject. The painting is Van Gogh's, but other artists mentioned are Cezanne, Monet, and Picasso.

Michigan Humanities Council - Arts and Humanities Touring Program - The Michigan Humanities Council connects people and communities by fostering and supporting quality cultural programs, and supports a variety of activities that bring communities, students and scholars together.

Art Institute of Chicago - Special exhibits, collections with interactivity, teacher resources to order.

The Louvre - History, collections, and virtual tour available (link is to English site).

National Gallery of Art - Collections, online tour, and NGAKids.

National Museum of Women in the Arts - Collections, frequently asked questions, and biographies of some of the artists.

Web Museum - Special exhibits and famous paintings link searchable by artist or by theme/time period.
