Eco-Interest FAQs
What is Eco-Interest?
Eco-Interest refers to a group of students who live in the residence halls' "green" floor on 2 West Vandenberg. Led by the S.O.P.E. Eco-Interest Team Leader, students from freshmen to senior status learn to live sustainably through programs, meetings, field trips, and community service.

What are the benefits of living on the Eco-Interest Floor?
Eco-Interest students have the opportunity to live on the new "green" floor. Amenities include sustainable and recycled carpets, non-toxic paints, dual flushing toilets, water saving faucets, and sustainable furniture. With these exciting features, students learn practical tips for living sustainably.

What the Eco-Interest students have done in the past?
Eco-students have participated in programs and field trips that include Recreate, Recycle, Repeat, Don't Waste the Water, Organic Trivia, Earth Day, a tour of Whole Foods Market, and a visit to the Rochester Hills Farmers Market. Our students have also participated in the Greening of Detroit and Make a Difference Day.

What are the expectations of living on the Eco-Interest Floor?
Eco-Interest students are expected to actively participate in the floor's activities. These events include attending bi-weekly meetings on the floor and participating in field trips and community service opportunities. The Eco-Team Leader facilitates the meetings where students engage in fun and informational activities that educate them about sustainable living.

What do I have to do to live on the floor?
You can register for the floor during New Student Orientation. If you have any questions, contact the University Housing Office for more information at 248-370-3570.
