Meet the Student Affairs Team

Angela Nuzzarello, MD, MHPE
Associate Dean for Student Affairs and

Associate Professor of Psychiatry

Angela Nuzzarello, MD, MHPEAngela Nuzzarello MD, MHPE, serves as associate dean of student affairs. Dr. Nuzzarello has served as associate dean for student programs and professional development at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Over her 20 year career in medical education, she taught in communication, ethics, professionalism, behavioral science and psychiatry curricula. Dr. Nuzzarello has a special interest in career development and medical student wellness and has presented at national conferences on varied student affairs topics. Her clinical focus is in the treatment of anxiety disorders.

Dr. Nuzzarello is available to meet with students regarding personal or academic matters, career advising, or any other matter.

Sandra LaBlance, PhD
Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Career Development

Sandra LaBlance, PhD, is the assistant dean of student affairs and career development. Dr. LaBlance has over 20 years of experience in higher education, most recently at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine where she served as director of academic and career counseling followed by three years of post-doctoral research with a focus on the socio-cultural issues that impact the career paths of biomedical scientists. Other research completed by Dr. LaBlance includes work focused on the role of relationships in medical student specialty choice as well as research on learning assistance, learning disabilities and effective pedagogical and learning techniques to support student needs.

Dr. LaBlance works closely with medical students throughout the medical specialty choice process, including residency application, interviewing and the match process. In addition, Dr. LaBlance has experience working with medical students who are interested in improving their study techniques and those seeking guidance in the process of preparing for the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 board exams.

Tina Cardamone, MPA
Associate Director of Financial Services

Tina Cardamone, MPAMs. Cardamone is the Associate Director of Financial Services at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Tina graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development, Human Services and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration. She has been a financial aid administrator for the past 12 years. Tina spent five years working with medical students at Wayne State University School of Medicine before coming to Oakland University to work in the financial aid office four years ago. Her primary focus is to help students become cognizant of their spending habits and minimize their educational debt.

Stephanie Jurva, MSA
Administrative Coordinator for Student Services

Ms. Jurva joined our team in August 2011 after working for Beaumont Health System for over 9 years. Stephanie graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and graduated from Central Michigan University in 2004 with a Masters of Science in Health Services Administration degree.  Stephanie is the Administrative Coordinator for Student Services. She ensures student health insurance is all set, along with their immunizations being complete. Her primary role is the Residency Application Process, yet she assists in a variety of other student services projects throughout the year.

Patricia A. Kliewer, MA, LPC, NCC

Patricia A. Kliewer, MA, LPC, NCCMs. Kliewer graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 2003 and her Master of Arts Degree in Counseling, emphasis in education, in 2006. Patricia holds a full State License in Counseling, a School Guidance Counseling License, and is a Nationally Certified Counselor.  Patricia is the Administrative Coordinator for the School of Medicine, Center for Medical Student Services. She is responsible for managing operations for the Center and assisting with administrative projects. Prior to joining the School of Medicine team in May of 2010, Patricia worked for Beaumont Health System, Royal Oak, for 9 years where she worked in Medical Education and faculty development.

Meaghan Walters, MPA
Coordinator for Student Activities

Ms. Walters is the Coordinator for Student Activities within the School of Medicine. Her primary roles include assisting students with all OU policies and procedures relating to student organizations/activities, overseeing the functioning of OUWB student groups budgeting processes, and maintaining the framework for the Medical Student Government (MSG). Meaghan manages the School of Medicine sponsored medical student events. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Management from Albion College and received a Master of Public Administration degree from Oakland University. Meaghan’s higher education experiences include student services, admissions, leadership development, first-year experience, and service-learning. Meaghan is available to meet with students regarding student initiatives and any other matter.

Sheryl Weiss
PRISM Coordinator and Financial Services Processor

Mrs. Weiss joined the OUWB School of Medicine Student Affairs team in October 2012 as the PRISM Coordinator and Financial Services Processor.

Sheryl has over 15 years of experience in higher education serving in the areas of student business services, and most recently in the financial aid office at Oakland University.

Her main focus will be to provide administrative support for the four year PRISM program, assisting with all aspects of the course including scheduling, preparing training material for PRISM mentors, managing the Moodle interface, and organizing the monthly PRISM specialty brown bag lunch series. Sheryl will also support the financial services area with financial aid reporting and student advising.

Sheryl is an active member of the Oakland University community and the community at large volunteering her services for many local charities.

Patti Bowman
Receptionist, CMSS

Ms. Bowman is the receptionist for the Center for Medical Student Services. A native Californian, she moved to Michigan in the fall of 2000. She brings more than 20 years experience in student and faculty services, including  ten years in both the Registrar’s Office and the International Students and Scholars Office at OU before joining the OUWB team in September 2011.  Patti welcomes students and visitors to the CMSS and assists students with scheduling appoints with the Student Affairs team.  In addition, Patti provides clerical support to Student Affairs and Admissions.
