David DiChiera
 
David DiChiera is a former faculty member and chair of the Music Department at Oakland University.  He served as artistic adviser to Oakland’s president and took an active role in establishing the Meadow Brook Music Festival.  He created the Overture to Opera program, developed it into the Michigan Opera Theater, and spearheaded the creation of the Detroit Opera House which opened in 1996 as the permanent home of the Michigan Opera Theater.  He is recognized locally, nationally, and internationally for his contributions to the world of music. Under his leadership, the Detroit Opera House continues to expand its world-class productions and is developing an Educational Resource Center.  Oakland University honored David DiChiera, by conferring upon him the honorary degree of Doctor of Arts, honoris causa.
