| C. R. Rao, as one of the world’s foremost practitioners of statistical analysis, he influenced such diverse fields as economics, genetics, anthropology, geology, national planning, demography, biometry, and medical diagnosis. With dozens of theorems to his name, he helped define and create the forms and modes of contemporary statistical thinking. He is the author or co-author of thirteen books and four hundred research publications. His book Linear Statistical Interference and Applications is one of the most often cited books in science. His professional colleagues from around the world have honored him at an international conference, have elected him to positions of leadership in professional organizations, and have bestowed upon him numerous medals, awards, and honors. Oakland University celebrated his accomplishments on the frontiers of applied mathematics by conferring upon him the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa. |
