Carl Levin

 Carl Levin, Doctor of Laws

Carl Levin, you are the longest serving Senator in Michigan history. Colleagues and constituents of all political persuasions admire your diligent work on the Armed Services and Governmental Affairs Committees and your principled positions on important public issues of the day, such as accountability in government spending and the protection of ordinary citizens from the effects of powerful institutions. You have been a strong and effective advocate of the use of technology in teaching and learning and of environmental protection of the Great Lakes. You played an instrumental role in bringing the Fastening and Joining Research Institute to Oakland University’s School of Engineering and Computer Science. Oakland University celebrates your accomplishments in public service by conferring upon you the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
