Quorum:
The definition of quorum is
“the number of members of a group or organization required to be present
to transact business legally, usually a majority.” For the Oakland
University Student Congress, reaching quorum is extremely important
because without quorum, the meetings cannot be officially called to
order, and no voting can take place. We determine quorum by taking the
total number of legislators in Congress, diving it in half, and adding
1.
Why 25 legislators?
The number of legislators that
OUSC can have is determined by the enrollment of the University.
Currently
that number is set at 25 legislators to accurately represent the student
population of OU. For this reason, OUSC continuously strives to reach
a full legislature so that as many students as possible can be
represented. Having a cap of 25 legislators also ensures qualified students, with the correct intentions, are filling these positions.
