The following is an update on major construction projects (July 9, 2010):
Squirrel Road:
The campus exits at University Drive and P1 are expected to reopen next week, however, at this point, traffic will only flow northbound on Squirrel Road between University Drive and Walton.
Varner House:
Much time and effort has been devoted to considering different options for the use and rehabilitation of Varner House (at the corner of Adams and Butler). With no cost-effective use being identified, Varner House will be razed this month.
Circle Drive:
Six of the pin oaks in the Circle Drive island have died and the rest are dying due to oak wilt disease. We’ve attempted to treat the disease but the treatments have not been successful. In order to revitalize the main entrance to the University, we will begin taking down the dead and dying trees this weekend. The island will be reforested with a selection of new trees in the fall.
