The following is an update on major construction projects (June 28, 2010)
Parking:
Significant progress has been made at sites where new parking will be added. The land where "P35" is being constructed, on the southeast corner of Pioneer and Library, needed to be leveled to coordinate with existing lot P37, resulting in approximately 2,000 truckloads of dirt being moved to vacant land east of P11. The majority of this excavation work has been completed. By the beginning of the fall semester, more than 500 new parking spaces will be available on campus.
High Temperature Hot Water (HTHW):
The HTHW project is proceeding on schedule, replacing deteriorated HTHW lines that service NFH, Graham Health Center, Wilson Hall, MBT, and the residence halls. To finalize connections to the residence halls, water service to Hamlin has been shut down for several days, but will be operational this week. The south lanes of Wilson Blvd. remain closed, with two-way traffic on the north lanes. This temporary traffic flow will be reversed in a few weeks. There was a water main break last week near NFH which affected water service in Wilson Hall and Graham. The break has been repaired.
Human Health Building (HHB):
Drilling of geothermal wells continues at the north end of P1 for the Human Health Building. More than 160 of the 256 wells have been drilled, with all drilling and trench work scheduled to be completed by the first week of August, and the parking lot resurfaced by the beginning of the fall semester. Excavation of the actual building site has begun. Building occupancy is set for fall 2012.
Squirrel Road Repaving:
Auburn Hills officials reconfirmed their expectation that northbound Squirrel Road between University Drive and Walton Blvd is expected to reopen next week, including the Circle Drive and P1 entrances/exits. Of course this is dependent on weather conditions. Until then, continue to enter and exit campus along Walton Blvd. or Adams Road.
