2010 Campus Projects

Career Services:

The relocation of Career Services offices to North Foundation Hall has been completed.  This helps consolidate additional student service areas into NFH.  The relocation was requested by student leaders in 2008 as one of their top priorities.

Vandenberg Hall Windows:

As part of the annual deferred plant renewal plan for housing, windows in Vandenberg Hall are being replaced, with completion scheduled for mid-August.

Parking:

A new parking lot, "P35" is being constructed on the southeast corner of Pioneer and Library.  The land has been cleared with excess dirt being moved to east of P11.  The P35 lot will add 384 new parking spots.  Other smaller parking improvements are being made throughout campus, with all parking construction scheduled to be completed prior to the beginning of the fall semester.  We expect to add 540 new and 40 reconfigured parking spots with this project.

High Temp Hot Water Line:

A major deferred plant renewal project is underway along Wilson Blvd., extending to the north side of the Oakland Center.  The project replaces deteriorated HTHW lines that service NFH, Graham Health Center, Wilson Hall, MBT, and the residence halls.  This project is similar to the 2008 project which replaced HTHW lines between South Foundation Hall and the Kresge Library.  The project necessitates partial closing of Wilson Blvd., with a scheduled completion prior to the beginning of the fall semester.

Human Health Building (HHB):

The Human Health Building, future home of the School of Nursing and School of Health Science, is progressing on schedule.  The first phase of work relates to a U.S. Department of Energy supported geothermal heat pump system (heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)) for the new building.  The geothermal system requires 256 wells, six inches in diameter and 320 feet deep, in which water will be circulated providing temperature control for the HHB.  The wells are being drilled every 25 feet at the north end of P1, which will be repaved by the beginning of the fall semester.  Building occupancy is scheduled for fall 2012.  Please refer to the following website for information on the geothermal system and other OU energy initiatives.

Squirrel Road Repaving:

Auburn Hills is repaving Squirrel Road between Walton Blvd and Featherstone.  All Squirrel Road entrances and exits to and from campus are closed.  Auburn Hills expects the northbound section of Squirrel Road, between University Drive and Walton, to be completed by the end of June, providing access to P1 and Circle Drive in early July.  Until then, enter and exit campus along Walton Blvd. or Adams Road.  Access to Pioneer Drive off Squirrel Road is expected to be open by the beginning of the fall semester, but only from the north.  Squirrel Road south of Pioneer Drive will not be completed until early November.  Please refer to the following website for periodic road construction updates.
