Frequently Asked Questions for the Executive MBA:

What is the format of the program?
The program consists of 39 credit hours completed over 21 months. Classes meet on Friday afternoons and all day Saturday on alternate weekends.
Who are the faculty involved with the EMBA program?
Courses are designed and taught by a combination of exceptional full-time faculty from Oakland University's School of Business Administration and successful business leaders.
What is the class size?
A maximum of 30 students are admitted to the program each year. They all go through classes together as a cohort, until they split off into elective classes for the concentration in Health Care Management or Information Systems Leadership. The cohort structure helps enhance the classroom dynamics, commitment to the program and resulting learning experience. This format also leverages the wealth of knowledge within each cohort group.
What is the average age of an EMBA student?
The average age of the EMBA students is about 37 years of age.
What is the difference between the regular MBA and the EMBA programs?
While you will receive an MBA degree for completing either of the programs, the EMBA includes the following additional features:
  • Learning from both outstanding School of Business faculty members and business leaders.
  • Biweekly weekend program delivery, blended with online support, offers flexibility needed for a busy professional to complete a challenging program.
  • Hands-on learning methods, with a focus on integrative thinking, include analysis of real business cases, working in learning teams and participating in business simulations. Special courses created around business issues, execution of strategies, and delivery methods to meet unique needs of the participants.
Is the degree received from the EMBA program the same as the degree received from the MBA program?
Yes, there is only one Master of Business Administration degree granted by Oakland University's School of Business Administration.
Is the EMBA Program accredited?
Oakland University's School of Business Administration is accredited by the AACSB, the premier accreditation organization for business schools.
What are the requirements to be accepted into the program?
  • A minimum of seven years experience in a field related to one of the concentration areas
  • An undergraduate degree in any discipline
  • Application for Admission to Graduate Study
  • Supplemental SBA application form and or/resume
  • 2-Recommendation Forms for Graduate Admission
  • Official transcripts from all previous colleges and universities attended
  • Official GMAT scores (for those not holding a graduate degree).
Do I have to take the GMAT?
Applicants who meet the specific requirements listed below may be waived from the GMAT and/or Supplemental Program form as part of the program requirements for admission. Waivers are never guaranteed and must be approved by the Graduate Admissions Committee in the School of Business Administration. Minimum requirements for waiver consideration include:
  • An advanced degree (masters or higher) and/or
  • A combination of strong academic record and significant managerial experience
  • A personal interview with the program coordinator may also be required
When are the deadlines for applications?
All application materials for the EMBA must be received by July 1 for fall admission. This program admits only in the Fall term.
What is the cost of the program? What is included in this cost?
The tuition for students admitted to the EMBA program in Fall 2013 is $36,500 plus a $1,000 non-refundable enrollment deposit. This includes all course registrations, textbooks, and course materials.  The program provides lite meals on Fridays and Saturdays when classes are scheduled to meet. (*The School of Business Administration reserves the right to change tuition rates prior to the start of each cohort.)
When are payments due?
The total tuition will be due in six installments, a $1,000 deposit due when accepting admission, and five payments of $7,300.00 due at the beginning of each term.
Are scholarships or loans available?
Students may apply to receive Financial Aid by contacting the University Financial Aid Office.
Are there information sessions that I may attend?
Yes, you can sign up for an information session by contacting our Executive MBA program office.
Can I sit in on a class?
When you attend an information session, you can ask about sitting in on a class session.
