Radiologic Technology
The Radiologic Technology specialization prepares students for a clinical internship.  Radiologic technologists are responsible for administering ionizing radiation to patients for diagnostic or research purposes.  The primary responsibility of the radiologic technologist is to integrate advanced radiographic techniques and positioning with applied knowledge of anatomy and physiology for the imaging of internal structures.  Practitioners of radiologic technology usually possess qualities such as good communication and a desire to work directly with patients.

Clinical Internship

Students may apply for specialization standing in Radiologic Technology after completing the BDTS core curriculum generally at the end of sophomore year.  Application to the clinical internship is made during the winter semester of the sophomore year for a July start date and summer semester of the sophomore year for the January start date.  The junior and senior years consist of a two-year clinical educational program at an approved school of radiologic technology.

Oakland University is affiliated with the accredited radiologic technology program at Beaumont Health System.  Acceptance into the internship is competitive and based on grade point average, personal interview, and letters of recommendation.  Desirable candidates possess qualities/abilities in communication, computer literacy, leadership, multitasking, problem solving, and critical thinking.  Patient contact experience, volunteering with patients and advanced course work are also considered favorably in the admissions process.

Curriculum

Students in the radiologic technology specialization must complete the following courses. For a complete description of courses, please review the Biomedical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Science Program entry in the Undergraduate Catalog.
