How do I change my major?

Make an appointment with an academic adviser in the School of Health Sciences or attend one of our information sessions to go over the major requirements. A change of major form can be completed during the appointment or walk-in advising session. The GPA required for students to be eligible to change their major into the School of Health Sciences varies depending on the major. I am not currently an Oakland University student. Can I still meet with an adviser?
Yes. Freshmen and Transfer Students will meet with an adviser at their scheduled orientation. Students who are thinking of attending Oakland University, but have not yet applied can meet with an adviser to learn more about the programs offered and their requirements.


I am a prospective transfer student. I want to see how my classes will transfer to Oakland University before making my decision to come to Oakland. Can an adviser evaluate my transcripts?
The Office of the Registrar completes the official transfer credit evaluation for General Education, Ethnic Diversity and Writing Proficiency Oakland University requirements after you have been accepted at Oakland.


I plan to graduate soon. What do I need to do?
Students must complete an application for graduation. Check the graduation information page for information. You can access graduation application deadlines and additional graduation information from this site.


What clubs/organizations are available for students with majors in the School of Health Sciences?
There are a variety of student societies for students with majors in the School of Health Sciences. These include the Medical Laboratory Sciences Association, Oakland University Student Section of the American Society of Safety Engineers, Wellness and Health Promotion Society, and Pre-Physical Therapy Club. SHS majors may also be interested in these student organizations: Pre-Dental Society, Pre-Medical Society, and Pre-Veterinary Society. How do I become a physical therapist?
To enter this profession, students need to pursue schooling beyond the undergraduate level degree. Our students complete the BS degree with a major in Health Sciences. Oakland University offers a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT), which is a 3-1/2 year full-time program after completion of a bachelor's degree. I am interested in a career in the medical professions (medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine and physician assistant). Can I choose a major in the School of Health Sciences to prepare for these programs?
Yes. There are several majors offered in the School of Health Sciences which provide excellent preparation for admission to various medical schools. Please see an academic adviser to discuss your undergraduate program options.
