B.S. in Health Sciences: Career Opportunities

  • Pre-Health Professional Concentration: The pre-health professional concentration incorporates basic science courses to prepare students for the traditional application requirements for medical, dental, optometric, veterinary, physician assistant and other professional schools. Students who earn a B.S. in Health Sciences with a pre-health professional concentration may work in a variety of settings and may find jobs as laboratory technicians, research assistants, health educators or wellness instructors.
  • Pre-Physical Therapy Concentration: The pre-physical therapy concentration area is designed for students who wish to pursue an advanced degree in physical therapy. Students who earn a B.S. in Health Sciences with a pre-physical therapy concentration may work in a variety of settings and may find jobs as physical therapists, physical therapy aides, rehabilitation assistants, laboratory technicians, research assistants, health educators or wellness instructors.
  • Pre-Pharmacy Concentration: The pre-pharmacy concentration is designed for students who wish to pursue an advanced degree in Pharmacy from Wayne State University. Graduates who complete the B.S. in Health Sciences with a pre-pharmacy concentration and the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) from Wayne State University may go on to work as an academic pharmacist, community pharmacist, hospital staff pharmacist, public health service pharmacist, or veterinary pharmacist.
  • Exercise Science Concentration: The exercise science concentration area offers courses for students interested in the relationship among physical activity, weight control, disease prevention, stress management and nutrition for optimal health and performance. Students who earn a B.S. in Health Sciences with an exercise science concentration may find jobs in personal training, cardiac rehabilitation, corporate fitness or health/fitness screening.
  • Integrative Holistic Medicine Concentration: The integrative holistic medicine concentration area prepares students for many traditional and non-traditional health and service-oriented professions and graduate programs including the OU Graduate Certificate in Complementary Medicine and Wellness. Students who earn a B.S. in Health Sciences with an integrative holistic medicine concentration may find positions in communities and medical systems that are opening holistic care centers, initiating patient-oriented practices and adding complementary methods to augment traditional care.
