Shop Hardware and Software

Vendors offer special licenses and prices to students. Be aware of these offerings to ensure that you receive the benefits of being a student at Oakland University.

Standard desktop and laptop computers are acceptable purchases; a computer purchased within the last three years is acceptable for a new student. Students should select the operating system best suited for their needs:  Windows, Apple, Linux are all acceptable choices. Computers should have virus protection and spyware protection software installed.  The Firefox browser is needed to access many online services and course materials.

Oakland University Bookstore Sells hardware and software with academic pricing from vendors such as Apple, Dell, and HP.
JourneyEd Sells Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Upgrade/Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Academic among other software.
Microsoft DreamSpark Provides downloadable copies of professional-level developer and designer tools e.g. Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer, Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, etc.
Microsoft Windows 741 Provides a downloadable upgrade copy with a perpetual license of Windows 7 Professional either 32-bit or 64-bit version with the option of receiving backup media on a DVD.
Microsoft Ultimate Steal Provides a downloadable copy with a perpetual license of Windows 7 Professional either 32-bit or 64-bit version, Office 2010 Professional Academic either 32-bit or 64-bit version, Office Visio 2010 Professional, and Office Language Pack 2010 with the option of receiving backup media on a DVD.
MSDN Academic Alliance Program — SECS All Microsoft software except the software in Office 2010 Small Business is available to School of Computer Science (SECS) students that major in either Computer Science and Engineering (CS/IT) or Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) students, take an SECS course, and have approval from the instructor to obtain the software for teaching and course work.
Red Hat Academic Subscriptions Provides Red Hat Enterprise Linux Academic Desktop and Server Editions with access to the Red Hat Network.
Apple Education Store Sells hardware and software with academic pricing.
Dell University Sells hardware and software with academic pricing.
HP Academy Sells hardware and software with academic pricing.
