Celebrating 40 Years

Strong history, promising future

The SBA celebrates 40 years of excellence in business education

Since 1959, Oakland University’s School of Business Administration has evolved from a small liberal arts college business program to a Department of Economics and Business Administration to an AACSB-accredited business school offering undergraduate and graduate business degrees. Over the last four decades, the SBA has seen tremendous growth in its reputation in the business and research community, thanks to the work of its expert faculty members and the success of its graduates in the work world.

Collectively SBA faculty, staff, alumni, friends and partners have made OU’s SBA what it is today – a school recognized in the region for delivering well-rounded business education. The SBA is continuing its transformation through the recently established Center for Integrated Business Research and Education (CIBRE) with the philosophy that says "integrative thinking, experiential learning and global understanding" helps advance our impact and reach from a regional to an international arena. During its 40th anniversary celebration events in October 2009, the SBA took time to reflect on its highlights and accomplishments, and look ahead to a bright future that builds on its strengths.

40th Anniversary Dinner Celebration

SBA alumni, faculty, staff and friends gathered in early October to reconnect, reminisce and celebrate the school's 40th anniversary at a campus dinner celebration. The dinner program recognized the evolution of the business program as it moves from being a school recognized regionally to one recognized at the national level.

Many who contributed to the SBA's success over the years were recognized by various speakers, including highlighting the substantial contributions SBA faculty members have received in the past three years alone, recent SBA scholarship recipients and retired Professor John Tower.

2009 International Business Conference

From health care reform to the importance of decision making, the SBA's 2009 International Business Conference addressed the importance of interplay between business schools, business and the international marketplace. Here, industry executives, academic thought leaders and government officials presented and discussed the challenges, opportunities and success. The impressive agenda included speakers and topics that covered today's issues and will set tomorrow's educational agenda.
