Fitness Assessments & Education
The Department of Campus Recreation offers both fitness assessments and additional fitness education to help individuals build the foundation for a health and active lifestyle.  Free or low-cost programs include:

Fitness Assessments

Fitness assessments are a great way to gather data about your current fitness level that can be used to set realistic goals.  By evaluating your fitness level and health risk, a personalized exercise program can be designed to help you achieve the health and fitness goals you establish. Fitness assessments benefit those interested in improving or maintaining their current fitness status.  A complete fitness assessment includes the following components:

  • health risk appraisal
  • fitness testing
  • exercise recommendation
  • personal fitness session

Fitness assessments require two appointments:  the first offers a variety of tests to evaluate your current fitness level, the second will set you up on a six to eight week exercise program and includes a one-on-one review of the exercises in the program.

Health Risk Appraisal
Your fitness assessment begins by completing a questionnaire about your overall health and wellness.

Fitness Testing
After completing the health risk appraisal, you will go through a series of tests to determine your overall physical health. The tests are for cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, body composition and muscular strength. Fitness testing takes about 40 minutes to complete.

Please wear athletic-style clothing. Shorts are preferred due to the body composition measurement on the thigh.

Exercise Recommendation/Personal Fitness Session

This is the second appointment of the fitness assessment during which you will receive a personalized exercise program as well as a personal fitness session to review the exercises within the program.
