What is the Host Family Program?
The Host Family Program offers to Oakland University international student’s hospitality and resources for their integration with American culture toward a broad and enriching experience during their stay in the United States. International students will be able to experience and get to know an American family during their stay at Oakland University.
What is the purpose of the Host Family Program?
• Introduce students to American family life and culture
• Help students move into their new “homes” (dorms or apartments)
• Introduce students to Oakland University and the surrounding community
• Foster relationships and interaction between international students and the OU community
What are the benefits to International students?
• OU faculty, staff, and families take a primary role in helping students transition into American culture
• Students get to experience American daily activities, common events and practices, holidays and traditions with
their Host Families
• Learn first-hand about a foreign culture while sharing aspects of American culture
