Academic Scholars (Freshmen Only)

Academic Scholars (Freshmen Only)

The Freshman Academic Scholars program sets the stage for an enriching and distinctive university experience. High achieving high school seniors who have been admitted to the SBA will be invited to participate in an accelerated track which allows students to begin their business pre-core during their freshman year. The Freshman Scholars program is competitive and comes with a scholarship opportunity. A letter will be mailed to students informing them of the decision.

To be considered for the Freshman Scholars program you must:
  • have a High School GPA of 3.5
  • have an ACT math score of 24 or higher
  • have an ACT composite score of 22 or higher
  • be Admitted to the SBA

As an SBA Freshman Scholar, you will:
  • be on the fast-track in the business school and be set apart from other freshman
  • register for sophomore level business courses during your second term at OU
  • earn major standing in accounting, business economics, finance, general management, human resources management, management information systems, marketing, or operations management at least one or two semesters before most incoming freshman
  • become a Dean's Scholar and receive a $250 scholarship per semester, for up to four semesters, after achieving major standing.
  • receive additional mentoring and educational support
  • participate in the school-wide Scholar programs
  • attend regular meetings with other Senior, Junior and Sophomore Scholars
  • be invited to become a Sophomore Scholar if you meet the requirements.

In addition, Freshman Scholars are able to earn Major Standing in the SBA by the end of fall semester of their sophomore year; one to two semesters earlier than other students and take three classes (one each semester) as a cohort: MIS 100, ACC 200, and ECN 210.
