DAPCEP (Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program)
Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP), a 30 year OU engineering program, partners with the Department of Pre-College Programs to share its commitment with providing underrepresented students the information, knowledge and skills that will prepare them for successful entrance into college which could lead to careers in engineering, science and mathematics.
Goals and Objectives
DAPCEP’s ultimate goal is to give underrepresented students the interest and preparation needed to succeed in a University-level science or engineering curriculum.
DAPCEP achieves results by offering intensive computer, technology, science, math, and engineering training from experienced professionals and instructors in their respective fields. Students receive hands-on opportunities in work environments in addition to classroom-based curriculum activities.
Program Descriptions
Summer Program
The Summer Program is a four week program with classes five days a week. DAPCEP collaborates with many Michigan universities to offer unique and exciting campus-based enrichment programs during the summer. Courses follow schedules similar to other college and university classes, alternating class instruction with laboratory projects.
Saturday Programs
Classes focus on quantitative subjects such as mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics, and chemistry. Equally important qualitative skills are taught including communication skills, networking, teamwork, resume writing, professional etiquette, and time and resource management.
PURSE Program
The PURSE (Promoting Underrepresented Girls Involvement in Research, Science and Energy) Program is a two year program for young ladies currently enrolled in the 9th grade with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Courses will prepare the student for college entrance exams and increase their knowledge of science and math related career fields.
