All first year students are assigned a specific academic adviser in the First Year Advising Center who will work with you to develop a balanced schedule, help you explore majors, connect you to campus opportunities and provide support in achieving your academic goals.
All first year students are required to meet with their FYAC academic adviser at least once per semester. We encourage you to schedule additional appointments with your adviser, especially if you are considering changing majors or experiencing academic difficulty.
You can find the name of your FYAC academic adviser on SAIL by following these
directions or by contacting the First Year Advising Center at (248) 370-3227.

In your winter semester appointment with your FYAC adviser, you will work together to identify courses for your second year.
For a complete list of registration dates by class standing and earned credits, visit the Registrar's website.

Student Financial Services will be hosting workshops in early 2013 to assist students in completing the FAFSA for the 2013-2014 academic year. The FAFSA is available online for the following academic year beginning on January 1.
Remember, OU’s Federal School Code for the FAFSA is 002307.
Please contact Student Financial Services at (248) 370-2550 or visit them in 120 North Foundation Hall for answers to your financial aid questions.

To achieve sophomore status at the end of the first year you need to keep a few important things in mind:
- Achieve 28 credits
- Be in good academic standing (shoot for a 3.0 GPA or higher!)
Academic workshops are offered in the FYAC and The Tutoring Center each semester to help you stay focused and on track. If you fall short of 28 credits, talk with your FYAC academic adviser about summer courses.

All first year students who have achieved sophomore status by the end of their first year are invited to celebrate their accomplishments and learn more about opportunities available in their sophomore year. The celebration takes place during Welcome Week.
Pictured: Celebrate 28 was held on Sept. 7 and featured live music from the local band Killer Flamingos.
